Data migration and ongoing sync for any system | Cloneto

Use cases

Move data between any systems, once or on a schedule.

Cloneto is a data movement engine for one-time migrations and ongoing sync between business systems. Teams define a migration once as a reusable pipeline, run it inside their own environment or their customer's, and track every record. Re-running a job never duplicates records, and a failed run resumes where it stopped. Cloneto is built by the team behind ClonePartner.

What kinds of data movement does Cloneto handle?

Cloneto handles batch data movement between any systems it connects to. That covers full platform migrations, phased migrations where both systems stay live, consolidations after a merger, scheduled and event-triggered syncs, onboarding imports and extracts from systems being retired. Every one runs on the same engine with the same record-level tracking.

Phased migrationBoth systems stay live while users keep workingA bulk load, then delta runs of changed records, then a final delta at cutover
ConsolidationSeveral sources merged into one after an acquisitionOne job per source into the same target, with the mapping store preventing duplicates
Scheduled syncTwo live systems kept consistent, for example nightlyThe same job on a cron schedule, reprocessing only changed records

What is the difference between a one-time migration and ongoing sync?

A one-time migration moves data from an old system to a new one and ends at cutover. Ongoing sync keeps two live systems consistent over time. Most real projects need both: a bulk load, delta runs while people keep working, a final delta at cutover, and often a sync that continues afterwards. Cloneto runs every stage with the same pipeline.

How do SaaS companies use Cloneto?

SaaS companies use Cloneto to run their new customers' migrations themselves. The onboarding team builds a Job Template once for each system its customers leave, runs it for every customer who switches, and shares a live dashboard. Data migration stops being the reason a deal stalls.

  • Win the switch

One template per system you replace, reused for every customer who moves.

  • Keep data flowing

Scheduled or webhook-triggered sync with the systems your customers keep.

  • Pass enterprise security reviews

Deploy per customer, in their cloud or hosted in-region.

  • Hand off the hard ones

ClonePartner engineers can take complex migrations.

Core conversions after mergers, CRM migrations, Dynamics 365 on-premises to cloud.
Ongoing
Nightly core-to-CRM sync.
Why Cloneto
It runs inside the institution's own tenant, and the vendor's own staff can run every job.

Ongoing
Keeping engagement and service platforms current during a transition.
Why Cloneto
Deployed in your environment, patient data stays where it already lives.

Public sector and education

Agencies, universities and their implementation partners use Cloneto to move constituent, case and student records off legacy systems.

One-time
Case management, constituent CRM and student information system migrations.
Ongoing
Scheduled sync between student, finance and CRM systems.

Ongoing
Scheduled sync between operational and customer-facing systems.

An energy data company ran its support-platform migration inside its own environment, under a US-data requirement.

How does Cloneto compare with other data movement tools?

Cloneto moves data between operational systems. It runs bulk migrations with transforms, deduplication and per-record error tracking, plus scheduled and event-triggered sync, deployable inside your own environment. ELT tools, iPaaS platforms and file importers solve neighboring problems, and Cloneto can run alongside them.

When is Cloneto not the right tool?

Cloneto is not the right tool for real-time event streaming or sub-second replication. It is also not built for analytics pipelines into a data warehouse. And for a single small file going into one app, that app's own importer is enough.

Frequently asked questions

What is Cloneto?

Cloneto is a data movement engine for one-time migrations and ongoing sync between business systems. Teams define a migration once as a reusable YAML pipeline, run it inside their own environment or their customer's, and track every record. Re-running a job never duplicates records, and a failed run resumes where it stopped. Cloneto is built by the team behind ClonePartner.

What is the difference between data migration and data synchronization?

A data migration moves data from one system to another and ends at cutover, when the old system is retired. Data synchronization keeps two live systems consistent over time. Most projects need both: a bulk load, delta runs while people keep working, a final delta at cutover, and often a sync that continues afterwards. Cloneto runs all of these with the same pipeline.

Can Cloneto keep two systems in sync after a migration?

Yes. The same Cloneto job that ran the migration can run on a schedule, such as nightly, or whenever a webhook fires. A content hash on every record means only changed records are reprocessed. Cloneto runs batch and scheduled sync; it is not a real-time event streaming platform.

Can a SaaS company use Cloneto to migrate its customers' data itself?

Yes. A SaaS company's onboarding or solutions team builds a Cloneto Job Template once for each system its customers leave, then runs it for every customer who switches, with a live dashboard the customer can follow. For complex cases, ClonePartner engineers can take over the migration.

Where does Cloneto run, and does our data leave our environment?

Cloneto deploys in your own or your customer's Azure subscription by default, on-premises as a single self-contained binary, or hosted in-region. In a tenant or on-premises deployment, the only outbound call Cloneto makes is a license check, so records never leave the environment.

Which systems does Cloneto connect to?

Cloneto connects natively to SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, CSV and YAML files, Azure Blob Storage, Amazon S3, and Dynamics 365 and Dataverse. Hundreds of SaaS applications, including Business Central, NetSuite, Salesforce, HubSpot and Zendesk, connect through a unified connector layer.

How does Cloneto prevent duplicate records?

Cloneto keeps a mapping store that records which destination record each source record became, along with a content hash. When a job runs again, records that already migrated are updated or skipped instead of created twice, and unchanged records are not reprocessed.

What happens if a migration fails partway through?

A failed Cloneto run resumes from where it stopped. Errors are recorded per record, with the field and the reason, so the team can fix the source data or the mapping and continue without starting over.

How does Cloneto use AI?

Cloneto's AI assistant drafts mappings and pipelines from a prompt, flags bad source data before a load, and explains failed runs in plain language with a proposed fix. Its output is plain YAML that runs on Cloneto's deterministic engine, so every change can be reviewed before it runs. Cloneto also works from Claude. The Security page covers how the assistant handles client data.

Is Cloneto an alternative to Fivetran or Workato?

Partly. Fivetran and Airbyte load data into a warehouse for analytics, and Workato and Boomi automate event-driven workflows between apps. Cloneto moves data between operational systems: bulk migrations with transforms, deduplication and per-record error tracking, plus scheduled sync, deployable inside your own environment. Cloneto can run alongside those tools.

How is Cloneto priced?

Per client. A one-time migration is $500 plus $1,000 per million records, capped at $10,000. An ongoing sync is $200 a month plus $100 per million records, capped at $1,500 a month. Full details are on the pricing page.

Who builds Cloneto?

Cloneto is built by the team behind ClonePartner, the engineer-led data migration company, with offices in Beaverton, Oregon and Bengaluru, India. ClonePartner holds a SOC 2 Type II report and ISO 27001 certification.
